Restaurant prices in Thailand

Prices in Thailand may vary a lot as the majority of the country is quite inexpensive. However, you may find quite high prices in tourist areas.

On average, a plate of fried rice in a restaurant is about 50 to 130 bahts and a bill for a three-course meal would be somewhere between 200 and 400 bahts per person, or much higher in fancier places or tourist areas. A small bottle of water (0.33) will cost you about 10 bahts, while a soft drink of the same size would cost about 15 bahts. A cup of coffee at Starbucks is around 100 bahts.

If you decide to visit a small restaurant around the beach, the variety of the menus will surprise you. You’ll be forced to choose between almost everything – pizza, pasta, fish, seafood, thai food, Chinese. Usually the local food is cheaper, but it depends on the type. If you order a tuna fish for example, it will cost you between 500 and 700 bahts for one whole fish, which compared to the cooked Thai dishes is priced very high. The traditional thai soup with boiled crabs is around 80-100 bahts.

Many of the restaurants in Phuket, located on the coastline, allows you to cook your own fish that you can catch yourself or buy on the market. In that case, you will pay a fixed fee, calculated per plate. For example, if you have 4 plates of cooked fish or seafood, you will pay 200 bahts (50 bahts for each plate). That way you’ll be a 100 % sure that the meals you order are fresh and tasty. Please have in mind that alcohol is very expensive throughout the country and that your dinner would be much pricier if you decide to drink.
