Transport prices in France

There are several options to get from the airport (Charles de Gaulle) to Paris. You can use the suburban train (RER), bus or a shuttle. The RER system and bus operate at similar rates - a one way ticket costs about €8.50 or €9.00, respectively. If you choose the shuttle option it will be about €13-14.00 in one direction.

Public transport in Paris consists of metro, buses and tram services, where metro is probably the fastest and easiest way to get around. Price for a one-way ticket is the same for the three main types of transport – about €1.70. If you buy a pack of 10 tickets (“carnet”), the price will be about €12.00 (discounted price is in half).

The Paris Visite Pass is also a good option for tourists. It gives you unlimited access to public transportation system for a certain period of time. The card is available for 1, 2, 3 or 5 days and it covers either 3 or 6 zones of the city. Prices start from €9.30 for one day covering 3 zones, and go to €29.90 for 2 days (or €51.20 for 5 days) 6 zones.

Another useful transportation service that is launched in Paris is the Noctilien network. This service operates buses at night (between 1 and 5 am) when the regular public transport is not working. They cover the greater Paris area (neighbor towns, too). Regular price per ticket is €1.50. However, when you are traveling through several city zones, each passed zone is taxed separately.

Options for cross -country travels are both buses and trains. A one-way train ticket from Paris to Lyon, for example, costs about 60 euro. The official website of Transilien - it gives information on all forms of public transport in Paris
