Transport prices in Austria

The main mean of transport, when it comes to city transfers and inner travels, is the Railway. It is a bit expensive though. There are options for discounts, such as the Vorteilscard - usually gives about 45-50% discounts on tickets. However, it is a good deal for people who are under 26 years old and seniors as it will cost about €20.00 (under 26 years) and €27.00 (for seniors) per year. Adults can have such card at the price of €100.00 per year, which makes it worth buying, only if you will really be travelling a lot by train. The minimum ticket price you can find for a trip from Vienna to Linz and back is about €60.00 (€30.00 one- way).
Buses are available as well – usually used for reaching regions where rail services are limited. They are a bit cheaper than trains, but also somewhat slower.

There are several means of transport that are available in Vienna specifically – bus, light rail, tramway and underground. A single ticket is at a price of €1.80 (bear in mind that if the ticket is bought at the transport, price is higher – €2.20). A 24h ticket costs €5.70, and a ticket that is valid for 3 days costs €13.60. The above-mentioned prices are valid for all the types of transport in the city.
Other available option is the Wochenkarte - a travel card that covers all means of transport within Vienna and is valid for a week (however, it is a set time- just from Monday to Sunday; if you buy it on Tuesday, for example, you will be able to use it only until Sunday) and costs €14.00.
The Vienna Card is good deal, if you plan on doing lots of sightseeing, and therefore will use the public transport quite a lot. It costs €18.50 and is valid for 72 hours, on the underground, trams and buses, but also offers additional small discounts to some attractions and places of interest. Austrian Federal Railways
